Walks plus hits per inning pitchedWHIP
WHIP stands for walks plus hits per inning pitched. Baserunners a pitcher allows per inning, counting walks and hits.
How WHIP is calculated
WHIP = (BB + H) ÷ IP
Jacob Misiorowski, 2026: (42 + 94) ÷ 169⅓ = 0.80
Hit batsmen and errors are excluded, so WHIP is not quite "runners allowed". It is more stable than ERA because it ignores the sequencing luck that decides whether those runners score.
