Wild PitchesWP

WP stands for wild pitches in baseball. Pitches so far off target that the catcher could not handle them with ordinary effort, letting a runner advance.

How WP is calculated

Counted. Lower is better.

The official scorer decides between a wild pitch, charged to the pitcher, and a passed ball, charged to the catcher. Knuckleballers and hard sinker-slider pitchers run up the highest totals.

What counts as a good WP?

Half of the 280 qualified MLB players in 2026 were at or below 3. The tenth with the most were above 6, which is where the number stops being a good sign.
