Innings PitchedIP
IP stands for innings pitched in baseball. How long a pitcher worked, in innings — three outs to an inning.
How IP is calculated
IP = outs recorded ÷ 3, written in thirds: 170.2 means 170 innings and two outs, not 170.2 innings.
One inning per team game — 162 over a season — is the qualifier for the ERA and WHIP titles, which is why those leaderboards list starters only.
What counts as a good IP?
