TBF stands for total batters faced in baseball. Every plate appearance against the pitcher: hits, walks, outs and everything else.
How TBF is calculated
Counted.
It is the denominator behind strikeout rate and walk rate (K ÷ TBF, BB ÷ TBF), which compare pitchers better than per-nine-inning figures.
What counts as a good TBF?
Half of the 319 qualified MLB players in 2026 were at or below 357. Clearing 684.2 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
