How P is calculated

Counted, pitch by pitch. Divided by plate appearances it is P/PA.

It grows with playing time, so everyday leadoff hitters lead it; the rate version, P/PA, is the one that measures patience. The median qualified hitter saw about 2,000 in 2025.

What counts as a good P?

Half of the 450 qualified MLB players in 2026 were at or below 1,444. Clearing 2517.2 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
