On-Base %OBP
OBP stands for on-base percentage in baseball. How often a hitter reaches base by any means that isn’t an error or a fielder’s choice.
How OBP is calculated
OBP = (H + BB + HBP) ÷ (AB + BB + HBP + SF)
Sacrifice bunts are missing from the denominator; sacrifice flies are in it. An out is an out except when the rulebook decides it was a gift.
What counts as a good OBP?
Half of the 241 qualified MLB players in 2026 were at or below .324. Clearing .365 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
