Ground Out to Fly Out Ratio GO/FO

GO/FO stands for ground out to fly out ratio in baseball. How many of a hitter’s outs came on the ground for every one that came in the air.

How GO/FO is calculated

GO/FO = ground-ball outs ÷ fly-ball outs

It describes a swing, not its quality: slap hitters with speed live above 1.0 and power hitters well below it, because a home run starts as a fly ball. The median qualified hitter was at 0.7 in 2025.

What counts as a good GO/FO?

Half of the 248 qualified MLB players in 2026 were at or below 0.70. Clearing 1.00 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
