Field Goal %FG%
FG% stands for field goal percentage in basketball. The share of shots from the floor that go in.
How FG% is calculated
FG% = FGM ÷ FGA × 100

FG% counts a three the same as a layup, so it systematically flatters centres and understates shooters. That flaw is exactly why true shooting and effective field goal percentage were invented.
What counts as a good FG%?
Half of the 186 qualified NBA players in 2025-26 were at or below 46.7. Clearing 52.0 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
