How SACK is calculated
SACK = solo sacks + 0.5 × shared sacks — which is why the leaderboard is full of half-numbers.
The sack has only been an official NFL statistic since 1982; everything before that is unofficial research, not league record.
What counts as a good SACK?
Half of the 127 qualified NFL players in 2026 were at or below 1.5. Clearing 3.5 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
