What does PTS mean in hockey standings?
PTS is the standings points a club has earned: two for any win, one for a loss in overtime or a shootout, none for a loss in regulation. Hockey tables are ordered by points, not by winning percentage.
How it is worked out
PTS = 2 × W + OTL
A game settled in regulation hands out two points and one that goes past it three, so a club level late in the third can settle for overtime and a point. Clubs level on points are split first by games played, then by regulation wins.
