Yards gained carrying the ball from scrimmage, by anyone — running back, quarterback or receiver on an end-around.

How YDS is calculated

YPC = rushing yards ÷ carries

Quarterback kneel-downs count as rushing attempts for negative yards, which is why a team’s rushing average dips slightly in games it is winning.

What counts as a good YDS?

Half of the 81 qualified NFL players in 2025 were at or below 537. Clearing 1,201 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
