YPC stands for yards per carry in football. Rushing yards divided by carries — the average gain each time a player runs the ball.
How YPC is calculated
YPC = rushing yards ÷ CAR
De'Von Achane, 2025: 1,350 ÷ 238 = 5.7
One long run moves it a lot: an 80-yard carry lifts a 150-carry season from 4.0 to 4.5, so the average says as much about a back’s longest runs as about his typical one.
What counts as a good YPC?
Half of the 52 qualified NFL players in 2025 were at or below 4.4. Clearing 5.1 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
