FUM stands for fumbles in football. Times the player lost possession of the ball before being down, whichever team recovered it.
How FUM is calculated
Counted. Lower is better. Fumbles lost (LST) is the subset the defense recovered.
Whether a fumble turns into a turnover is close to a coin flip, which is why analysts judge ball security on fumbles, not fumbles lost.
What counts as a good FUM?
Half of the 115 qualified NFL players in 2025 were at or below 1. The tenth with the most were above 3, which is where the number stops being a good sign.
