Fantasy Points FP
FP stands for fantasy points in basketball. The score a player earns for a fantasy basketball team in a points league: every counted stat turned into points, with turnovers, and at ESPN missed shots, taken off. Also called fantasy basketball points or points league scoring.
How FP is calculated
ESPN default = PTS + 3PM + 2 × FGM − FGA + FTM − FTA + REB + 2 × AST + 4 × STL + 4 × BLK − 2 × TOV. Yahoo default = PTS + 1.2 × REB + 1.5 × AST + 3 × STL + 3 × BLK − TOV.
The two defaults rank the same players differently. ESPN charges a point for every missed shot and pays for made ones, so an efficient big man gains on a volume scorer; Yahoo ignores shooting altogether and pays more for rebounds and assists. ESPN has used this scoring for new leagues since 2020; before that a steal or a block was worth one point, not four.
What counts as a good FP?
Half of the 424 qualified NBA players in 2025-26 were at or below 20.4. Clearing 37.2 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
