Shots Against SA
SA stands for shots against in hockey. Shots on goal the goalie faced while he was in net: every save and every goal allowed.
How SA is calculated
SA = saves + goals against
Save percentage is saves ÷ SA, so this is the number every goalie rate rests on; on its own it measures how busy the team in front of him let him be.
What counts as a good SA?
Half of the 69 qualified NHL players in 2025-26 were at or below 952. Clearing 1540.6 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
