L stands for losses in hockey. Games lost in regulation with the goalie in net for the go-ahead goal.
How L is calculated
Counted. An overtime or shootout loss is filed apart, as OTL.
What counts as a good L?
Half of the 68 qualified NHL players in 2025-26 were at or below 12. The tenth with the most were above 22, which is where the number stops being a good sign.
