Game-Winning Goals GWG

GWG stands for game-winning goals in hockey. The goal that gave the winning team one more than the loser finished with — the 4th goal in a 5-3 win, not necessarily the last one.

How GWG is calculated

Counted. In a shootout win the team is credited with the winning goal; no player is.

What counts as a good GWG?

Half of the 450 qualified NHL players in 2025-26 were at or below 2. Clearing 5 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
