Fantasy Points FP
FP stands for fantasy points in hockey. A player’s score in a fantasy hockey points league: a skater earns points for goals, assists, shots, hits and blocks; a goalie for wins, saves and shutouts, and loses them for goals allowed. Also called fantasy hockey points or goalie fantasy points.
How FP is calculated
ESPN default: skaters 2 × G + 1 × A + 0.5 × PPP + 0.5 × SHP + 0.1 × SOG + 0.1 × HIT + 0.5 × BLK; goalies 4 × W + 1 × OTL + 3 × SO + 0.2 × SV − 2 × GA. Yahoo default: skaters 6 × G + 4 × A + 2 × (+/-) + 2 × PPP + 0.9 × SOG + 1 × BLK; goalies 5 × W + 5 × SO + 0.6 × SV − 3 × GA.
The two leagues reward different skaters: ESPN pays for hits and blocks, so a physical defenceman climbs its list, while Yahoo triples ESPN’s rate for goals and adds plus/minus. A skater is scored from 2009-10, the first season ESPN filed his hits and blocks.
What counts as a good FP?
Half of the 765 qualified NHL players in 2025-26 were at or below 1.2. Clearing 2.1 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
