Blocked Shots BLK
BLK stands for blocked shots in hockey. An opponent’s shot the player stopped with his body or stick before it reached the net.
How BLK is calculated
Counted by the off-ice official. The shooter is charged with a shot attempt, not a shot on goal. ESPN’s figures begin in 2009-10.
Defencemen fill the top of the list: they stand in the shooting lanes that a forward only passes through.
What counts as a good BLK?
Half of the 682 qualified NHL players in 2025-26 were at or below 40. Clearing 108 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
