AST/TO stands for assist-to-turnover ratio in basketball. Assists a player records for every turnover he commits.

How AST/TO is calculated

AST/TO = assists ÷ turnovers

Above 2.0 is a careful ball-handler and above 4.0 is rare air, but it rewards caution: a guard who never tries the hard pass keeps a clean ratio and creates less.

What counts as a good AST/TO?

Half of the 424 qualified NBA players in 2025-26 were at or below 1.8. Clearing 2.9 put a season in the top tenth of the league.
